General – M. W. Mijburgh

Marthinus Wilhelmus Mijburg was born on 16 July 1870 on Molenvlei in the Swellendam district and died on 26 February 1920 at Paulpietersburg.

In 1884 he was one of the first inhabitants of the Nieuwe republic and in 1893 was nominated as member of the house of assembly for Vryheid in the Zuid-Afrikaansche republic. In November 1899 he joined Commandant Dirksen,s commando at Modderspruit. He was part of the battles at Colenso, Spioenkop, Pontdrif, Pieters hights and Allemansnek.

He now joined the Edwards Verkenners Corps (EVC) and was fighting in the Transvaal.

He was appointed as a lieutenant for the corps and after Captain Dames was woundes he became the Captain of the corps.

He also fought at then in Natal at Ithala,Spieshoek en Onverwacht.

On 23 March 1902 he was appointed as vecht-general for Vryheid and Utrecht in place of General Cheerte Emmett who was caught.

On 6 May 1902 his commando was attacked by Zulu impis and a few men lost their lifes.

He was appointed to the Vereeniging peace talks but could not go.
