General – C.E. Fourie

Christiaan E Fourie was born on 17 June 1855 in the town of Lichtenburg and was part of a few battles against the tribes of Sekoekoeni and Njabal. He bought the farm Blesbokfontein in the Middelburg didtrict in 1888. In 1890 he was part of a commission that travelled through Mashonaland.

In 1896 he was selected as Veldcornet for the Olifantsrivier area and promoted to Commandant the next year as well as Naturelle commissioner. He was part of the battles of Dundee and Modderspruitand on 13 December was promoted to Vecht-general. He was then part of the battles of the Tugela river and after the siege of Ladysmith he was sent to the Free state to take command of the Heidelberg burghers. In March 1901 he was taken prisioner and locked up with C Schutte in the jail in Middelburg. On 11 June 1901 they escaped from the British.
