He joined the ZAR artillery as a young man and was transferred to the ZAR police corps with the rank of Sergeant. When Swaziland was taken he was a second lieutenant and later a first lieutenant.
In 1899 he was appointed commandant of the Citizen and Police commando of Swaziland and was send to the Natal front.
He died at 26 September 1901 at Itala
