Kommandant – P.C. van Niekerk

P C van Niekerk, known by his friends as Oubaas, came in 1887 from Humansdorp in the Cape Colony to the Transvaal and stayed in Elandsfontein. (Germiston).

In 1895 after the Jameson raid he received citizenship of the Transvaal.

On 30 October 1899 he joined a commando on its way to Colesberg as a private citizen.

In February 1900 his veldcornet Gravvett was promoted to Commandant and he was appointed Veldcornet in his plac. Gravett became later a General.

In the same year when his commando was operating in the Lydenburg area he was promoted to Commandant and was part of battles on the Highveld. He was wounded twice but carried on till the end of the war.
