Kommandant – C.J.H. du Plessis

Casper Jan Hendrik du Plessis was born in 1841 on the farm Modderfontein in the Rustenburg district.

He was part of the commando’s against Mapoch, Ketze-Kats and Mapela as well as the first liberation war.

He was also a member for Rustenburg of the Second Volksraad.

At the start of the war he was sent to the North-Western borders to help stop the Linchwe’s people from entering the country.

He was at Elandrivier north of Pretoria and also at Rustenburg with his commando in some battles and when he was busy with the invasion of Rustenburg he was severly wounded. His men took him to Olifantsnek but had to leave him behind when they were attacked by the British army. He was then taken as prisioner and took to the hospital in Rustenburg .

He was deported to Ceylon as a prisioner of war and only came back at the end of the war.
