Kommandant – D.J. Schoeman

David Johannes Schoeman was born on 25 January 1853 at Krugerspos in the Lydenburg district.

He died on 22 January 1931 at Doornkop near Dullstroom.

In 1880 he was a member of the Paardekraal event and fought against Anstruther at Bronkhostspruit and here he was appointed as veldcornet for the Krokodil river ward. He also fought as acting commandant against Mapocho, Modjadji, Makgoba and Makhado.

In 1899 he became commandant of the Lydenburg commando and went to Natal and was part of the Ladysmith siege.

He also fought at Allemansnek, Dalmanathu, Lydenburg, Spitskop, Pelgrimsrus, Ohrigstad and Boshoek.

After Lydenburg was taken in he re-organised a commando and in April 1901 he was surrounded by the British but escaped with 50 men.

He blown up the railway line and prevent the siege of Pelgrimsrus.

He fought under General Christiaan Botha  against Buller in the Eastern Transvaal and went to Vereeniging for the peace negotiations.
